Safe testing without welding work permits: Save time and reduce labor costs in explosive environments with certified thermography

Inspecting critical items in hazardous environments is usually a lengthy process - but it doesn't have to be!

To ensure the safety of inspectors and condition monitoring specialists when monitoring industrial facilities, strict safety regulations require permits for welding work to be prepared in advance and signed by multiple supervisors.

While the goal is admirable, the practical implementation of this solution can pose a problem. This is especially true when you consider that in some cases it can take up to seven working hours to obtain a permit for welding work, and even then it is only valid for one shift.

Site delays or staff illnesses can mean permits expire before work is completed, causing further delays while new permits are obtained. Meanwhile, potential on-site maintenance issues remain unresolved – and potentially worsen.

The FLIR Cx5 offers an alternative to time-consuming welding permits and seemingly endless paperwork, saving time without compromising safety.

Skip long approval processes: IEC certified thermography
We are aware that permits for welding work are required for good reasons. This is intended to protect human lives and minimize the risk of inflammation in classified areas. However, new technologies now offer a more efficient alternative.

The FLIR Cx5 is a safe, certified thermal camera device for use in hazardous environments. Unlike other thermal imaging devices - which are at risk of ignition during the inspection process, the FLIR Cx5 is protected by a sealed housing that virtually eliminates the risk of ignition from electrical components. This means that it fully meets most insurance requirements and does not require lengthy formalities.

Not only is it rugged and portable, it is also IEC certified, meaning there is no need to complete time-consuming permits for welding work in a variety of industrial and hazardous environments, including e.g. E.g.:

Natural gas combustion plants
Chemical plants
Pharmaceutical production and distillation plants
Gas liquefaction plants
Water treatment plants and pumping stations
Plants for the production of cosmetics
Sawmills
Industrial baking systems
Safe for use in Zone 2 explosive environments
Whether condition monitoring specialists are on-site at a petrochemical plant, storage silos, or a facility with an industrial furnace, the FLIR Cx5 is certified for immediate use without the need for welding permits or management approvals.

With the Cx5, inspectors can now immediately work at any facility that falls under the Zone 2 classification where combustible materials are handled or processed on site.

If a problem with a component is suspected, operators can be available as quickly as possible, without time-consuming application processes that could lead to even more delays at critical moments.

The FLIR Cx5 is portable and weighs just over 700g - ideal for locating hotspots in fast-paced environments.

At a glance: Important statistics about the FLIR Cx5
The FLIR Cx5 meets restricted respiratory and dust protection standards and eliminates the need for permits for welding in hazardous locations due to gases, fumes and dust.

T-Class surveys can be completed quickly and easily as operators can easily carry the compact Cx5 in their pocket and its portability ensures dexterity and balance when climbing access ladders.

Additionally, the operator can see into hard-to-reach areas or dark recesses with the help of an LED light protected by an impact-resistant lens.
